Goodness, what do I mean by that? Sounds a bit heavy, surely clothes are just clothes aren’t they? Something you put on your body that hopefully make the best of you and make you feel good. Well, we all know how important the right shade of a colour is to making you look and feel fabulous, the right shape and accessories are also important.

Why?

Well, we are all a lot more than an outside shell with a particular shape. We are a complex mix of character, personality, emotions and feelings. If we simply dress the outside ‘shell’ we are missing the very essence of ‘who’ we are. When I work with my clients, I honour their ‘who’ on the inside as well as their ‘what’ on the outside, thereby dressing the whole person.

How does this work then?

I will look at your outside body shape, because this is very important, if you have a curvy body, straight, sharp clothes are not going to look great and vice versa, so the outside shape IS very important, but is only half the story. I need to find out your inner core, your values, beliefs, and way of being. The inner you can be honoured by your accessories and style combined with the right shape of clothes.

All sounds a bit complicated to remember

It really isn’t, I explain it all to you in detail and give you sheets to explain your clothing personality and how that translates into the shape of clothes. It is based on Yin and Yang, Yin being the feminine and Yang being the masculine. This doesn’t mean to say that all women are completely Yin and all men are completely Yang because it doesn’t work like that. We are all made up of a combination of both, outside and inside.

By looking at your body shape I see how much Yin and Yang you have outside, I then go through a Personality Questionnaire to discover how much Yin and Yang you have on the inside, I then put all this information together and come up with your Clothing Personality.

There are 6 main personality types but a combination of over 13 varieties. Let me talk you through the main types, staring with the most Yang, the most masculine, and moving towards the most Yin, the most feminine. All personality types have a spiritual age as well, which I’ll talk about as I explain.

Dramatic – most Yang

Outside Body Shape:	Sharp straight, angled, likely to be tall, probably very slim, quite large features, always striking but ‘pretty’ is not a word you would use for Dramatic women
Inside Personality:	Strong, silent type (especially the men) Their personal space is double everyone else’s, they like to keep their distance. Can be quite demanding of other people, leaders, visionaries, strong presence when they walk into a room, more likely to put their life into ‘boxes’, not very good at juggling
Examples:	MEN – Sean Connery, Onassis, Jack Nicholson, Robert de Niro WOMEN – Cher, Annie Lennox, Grace Jones, Angelica Houston
Spiritual Age:	Old Souls, they’ve been here SO many times before!

Classic

Outside Body Shape:	Straight, but the sharp edges have been knocked off, probably not much of a waist, very elegant, glide everywhere effortlessly, small to medium features, neat and tidy hair and facial features
Inside Personality	Very cool, calm and collected, not fussy and don’t like fussy clothes or frills, hate creases, so struggle with linen clothes! Very tidy in their home and office, will despair of clutter, have a natural authority and people will listen to them and trust them
Examples:	MEN - Charles Dance, David Niven, Cary Grant WOMEN – Patricia Hodge, Grace Kelly, Lee Remmick, Priscilla Presley
Spiritual Age:	13 - they bypass 0-12 and arrive on the planet aged 13! Always very grown up

Natural

Outside Body Shape:	Soft Straight, very slightly curvy but almost indistinct, usually fairly tall, medium to large facial features, loose sometimes wild hair, unstructured
Inside Personality:	Free spirits, break the rules, don’t like to be constrained, office jobs are very challenging for them, they’d rather be outside, visionaries, the entrepreneurial pirates! Very untidy – not good housemates with Classics!
Examples:	MEN - Richard Branson, Bob Geldorf, Paul Hogan, Sean Bean WOMEN – Anita Roddick, Julie Waters, Kim Bassinger
Spiritual Age:	7 - they’d rather be climbing trees than doing anything sensible!

Gamine

Outside Body Shape:	Straight, slightly sharp, but on a much smaller scale than Dramatic or Classic, small features, shorter in stature, neat and tidy people in their look and shape, pert and cheeky, bright sparkly eyes, look great with very short hair
Inside Personality:	Very tenacious, hard working and demanding – on themselves and other people, don’t give up easily, bubbly, fun, cheeky, very well organised, like little terriers
Examples:	MEN - Wayne Sleep, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise, Mickey Rourke WOMEN – Liza Minnelli, Audrey Hepburn, Kylie Minogue, Madonna
Spiritual Age:	2 - they will stamp their feet and have tantrums if they don’t get their ownn way! But also love to play and will be the life and soul of a party

Ingénue

Outside Body Shape:	Mixture of straight and curved, small features, very neat and tidy looking people, hair will always be neat. Very pretty and feminine, delicate looking, never seem to age
Inside Personality:	Perfectionists, they will notice anything slightly ‘off’, pictures on a wall for example, hate untidiness, love neatness, clothes must be tailored and neat, One of the strongest inner personalities, so they have a constant struggle with looking delicate on the outside but inside is a core of steel, hence most Ingénue women will deny their inner core, men want to protect them, but they SO don’t need to be protected!
Examples:	MEN - there aren’t any! This is a purely female personality WOMEN – Nicole Kidman, Susan Hampshire
Spiritual Age:	5 ¾ nearly 6 – I can do this myself thank you!

Romantic

Outside Body Shape:	Full curved, very voluptuous, round face, the hour glass figure, soft features, soft hair, usually longer and loose, bedroom eyes
Inside Personality:	Very tactile, touchy feely people, will be your best friend instantly, love wonderful fabrics, sensuous and generous, their personal space is half everyone else’s! They come up very close to you very quickly, sexy and glamorous
Examples:	MEN - Most Latin men! Omar Sharif, Elvis Presley, John Travolta WOMEN – Marilyn Monroe, Joan Collins, Stephanie Beecham, Scarlet Johansson
Spiritual Age:	Still in their cots! If you have an argument with a Romantic, don’t expect them to come to you, you have to go to them, they can throw their toys out of the pram

So then, where are you amongst that lot? A good question. Very few people will be one clothing personality, most are a mixture of two, sometimes three. It’s my job to find out where you are outside and inside, put it all together and talk you through your clothing personality and how that translates into the clothes you wear, your accessories, shape of your jewellery, fabrics, patterns etc.

The whole process is enlightening, good fun and quite revelatory!
